Rama: Chiefs dream led to nerves

Cape Town – One of Kaizer Chiefs’ latest recruits, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, has revealed why his dream of playing for the club made him nervous when he lined up against Orlando Pirates on debut. The 26-year-old was a somewhat surprise addition to the Chiefs fold during pre-season as he was previously captain of title-winning Mamelodi Sundowns.

Nonetheless, ‘Rama’ made a good impression on debut against Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup as Amakhosi ran out 2-0 victors. The reliable defender explained why his nerves were jangling in his first match for Steve Komphela’s side.

“It was a great feeling to wear the gold and black jersey for the first time. There is no way better to make a debut than beating Pirates,” he told the club’s official website. “I grew up supporting Chiefs and this is a dream come true. It was a nerve-wracking experience, although I felt better after a few touches on the ball.” Mphahlele is expected to play a major part in Komphela’s plans. Chiefs begin their Premiership campaign with a tough away clash with Bidvest Wits on August 23.
