Special Olympics South Africa provides accessible health care in 7 different disciplines for Cape T owns forgotten community

There are more than one million individuals with intellectual disabilities in South Africa, many of whom live in social isolation, with little support or opportunities to participate in society. Special Olympics offers year round sports training and competition opportunities for both children and adults with an Intellectual disability, giving them an opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and become integrated and valued members of our society.
Special Olympics South Africa will be hosting a Healthy Athlete Screening for children and adults with intellectual disabilities on the 27th of May 2017. Healthy Athlete Screening is an initiative that takes place annually in South Africa, in at least four provinces. Healthy Athlete Screening offers free health services and information to athletes in dire need of medical attention. In the process, Special Olympics has become the largest global public health
organization dedicated to serving people with intellectual disabilities. This event will be hosted at Mitchells Plain School of Skills, through the help of medical specialists, medical physicians and professionals in Dentistry, Optometry, Podiatry, Physiotherapy, General practitioners, Audiology and Dieticians. These individuals offer
their time, skills, efforts and services at no cost towards athletes with intellectual disabilities.
