Amapiano Stars Young Stunna and Kabza De Small Allegedly Slapped with a Pricey Lawsuit
Date: November 7, 2023
In a recent development in the world of Amapiano music, Young Stunna, known as Sandile Msimango, and the record label Piano Hub, owned by Kabza De Small (real name Kabelo Petrus Motha), have reportedly found themselves entangled in a legal battle. The two entities are facing a lawsuit amounting to a hefty R1 million. The lawsuit was filed by a music promoter from Durban Base Entertainment (DBE) who claims that the artists failed to fulfill their end of a deal that took place in September 2022.
The Allegations
According to reports published in Sunday World, Young Stunna, who is reportedly contracted under Kabza De Small's record label, was allegedly paid R40,000 to perform at an event alongside Amapiano rising star Mfana Kah Gogo. However, Young Stunna did not show up at the event, leaving fans and event organizers disappointed.
The event promoter, DBE, claimed to have incurred substantial expenses in anticipation of Young Stunna's performance. These expenses reportedly include R8,000 for the star's transportation, R2,500 for the stage, R2,500 for sound equipment, R3,500 for security, R1,000 for lighting, R3,500 for a tent, R7,500 for furniture, and R7,500 for Young Stunna's hospitality rider, among other costs. These details are said to be documented in the court papers filed by the music promoter.
A Growing Trend
This lawsuit is not an isolated incident in the Amapiano music industry. Earlier this year, DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small faced similar accusations from event promoters. They were criticized for having high hospitality rider demands and booking fees while allegedly failing to fulfill their commitments by not showing up for scheduled performances.
Event promoters, such as Leko Kenosi from Botswana, expressed frustration over the unprofessional behavior of some Amapiano artists who, in their opinion, often demanded expensive alcohol and complained about flights, creating difficulties for event planning.
The legal battle involving Young Stunna, Kabza De Small, and DBE underscores the importance of professionalism and commitment in the music industry. It serves as a reminder that contractual obligations and commitments should be taken seriously by all parties involved in the entertainment business.
The outcome of this lawsuit will likely have a significant impact on how artists and promoters conduct business in the Amapiano music scene, emphasizing the need for transparency, accountability, and professionalism in the industry. It remains to be seen how this case will evolve and whether it will prompt a shift in the behavior of Amapiano stars when it comes to honoring their performance commitments
