From Nyanga East to Johannesburg’s Creative Spaces
Originally from Nyanga East, one of Cape Town’s most well-known townships, Mpume spoke proudly about his roots and how they shaped his discipline and outlook on life.
“The discipline I have comes from where I’m from — Nyanga East. That’s home.”
Although he is not based in Johannesburg, Mpume described the city as one of South Africa’s most influential creative hubs. Since spending time in Joburg, he has grown personally and professionally, collaborating with creatives across music and art.
“Joburg is one of the greatest cities in the country. I’ve grown as an individual and managed to collaborate with a lot of people.”
A New EP Exploring Love Beyond Culture
During the interview, Mpume revealed details about his upcoming six-track EP titled:
Indu Uenle Ika Ulu Azizuin
The project explores the idea that love and commitment are not limited by tribe, culture, or geography.
“You can find a committed partner from a different tribe — even from outside the continent.”
Through this EP, Mpume challenges traditional expectations and promotes openness, unity, and emotional connection.
Valentine’s Day Release in the Works
The EP is currently in its final mastering stage and is expected to drop on 14 February (Valentine’s Day) — a date chosen to align with the theme of love that runs through the project.
“It’s all about love. That’s why we chose the 14th of February.”
The release is planned for digital platforms, making it accessible to a wide audience.
