Waterfall Runners re-enter the streets

Waterfall City Athletics Club members ran for the first time this year on the streets of Waterfall to ring in the new year.

Sandile Gxavu, the club's training officer, said the weekend run was their long run, which takes place every Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

Machemo Masekoameng and Sharon Ntshangase of Waterfall City Athletics Club are eager to go back on the streets for their first run of the year. Mfundo Dlamini Gxavu said the club put out a weekly training program that comprised various types of training sessions such as speed sessions, strength sessions, and long runs for endurance training.

Every Wednesday at 18:00 in Waterfall Park, the club also hosted a Time Trial (the club's hallmark speed training event).

"We believe that beginning early in the year is important for more than just keeping our New Year's resolutions.

"It allows runners to put in those crucial slow and easy runs that develop a strong platform for them to train ahead of the frantic racing season in March and April," Gxavu said.

Members had the option of doing a 10, 20, or 30km run on the day, according to Gxavu.

Gxavu said joining them was simple for individuals who wanted to keep their fitness aspirations alive this year, as all of their training runs were free and available to non-members.

"People can follow the club on social media and see posters with information about our training runs."

"A link will be given for members and non-members to register for the next run so that the club can regulate the number of persons who come to our training runs," says the club.

Gxavu also suggested that people go to their club's website for further information on how to join. "Waterfall City Athletics Club welcomes all ages and abilities, from beginners to expert runners."
