Crispy Skateboards Hosts Dynamic Night of Art, Skate Culture, and Live Music in Rosebank
Rosebank, South Africa, 13 May – Crispy Skateboards took over Rosebank with a two-venue event, A Night at Origin Art and Not An Afterparty, spotlighting its Motion and Expression collection in collaboration with local South African visual artists. Bringing the street skating culture to the bar—merging art, community, and raw skate energy into one unforgettable night.
The event followed an art competition earlier this month, where Crispy Skateboards invited local South African creatives to design custom boards as part of the Motion and Expression campaign. This competition ended with three winners—Meli Ndlovu selected by Crispy, Steezkatt by Origin Art Gallery, and Allas du Ploy who was voted for by the public. The winners’ boards were unveiled at the second venue, Democracy Bar. Where a custom-built skate ramp was installed inside the bar, bringing the street culture vibe to life, while live music performances by Lerato Orchestral Collective and Aura Electric, turned the night into a celebration of artistic expression and community.
Kaelik, one of the owners of Crispy Skateboards says that “With ‘Motion and Expression,’ we wanted to highlight the richness of South African creativity and give emerging artists a platform in a tough industry. Crispy is becoming more than a brand—it’s a creative space where art and skate culture intersect. Our picks—Skits, Steezkatt, and Allas du Plooy—each captured skate culture’s raw, unapologetic spirit in their own way. We knew we also had to honour the skating itself, so with 011 Skatepark we hosted an afterparty that brought the culture to life. For us, it’s about showing that skate and art aren’t separate—they’re part of the same movement.”
