A New Era for Miss South Africa

The 2026 competition is the first full season under the ownership of the Motsepe Group, which acquired the pageant in 2024, ending the tenure of Weil Entertainment. This transition triggered significant structural changes, including the departure of long-time CEO Stephanie Weil and creative director Werner Wessels.

Africa Fashion International (AFI), founded by Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, now shapes the pageant’s identity, bringing a fashion and luxury creative infrastructure to the organisation.

From International to Pan-African Focus

In a dramatic shift, Miss South Africa relinquished all international pageant licences in 2025, including Miss Universe and Miss Supranational. The 2025 titleholder, Qhawekazi Mazaleni, did not compete internationally due to time constraints and ongoing restructuring.

Patron Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe described the platform as one “designed to work with the winner and every contestant, equipping them to contribute meaningfully on both local and global platforms.”

Accountability and Impact Over Aesthetics

Miss South Africa 2026 is being positioned as a year-long leadership development journey rather than a singular competitive event. Finalists and the eventual titleholder are expected to actively drive community engagement through the pageant’s official social impact programme, Empower Youth Africa (EYA).

Empower Youth Africa (EYA) Focus Areas:

  • Education and skills development
  • Entrepreneurship and youth employment
  • Health and wellness
  • Community upliftment
  • Civic engagement
  • Pan-African collaboration
