Ab-Soul Just Joined the Back to the City 2026 Lineup
Johannesburg, this one’s different. Ab-Soul has been added to the Back to the City lineup for 2026, joining previously announced acts Blu & Exile and Slum Village on a bill that keeps getting heavier with every new announcement.

The festival takes place at its longtime home in Newtown, Johannesburg, on Saturday, 10 October 2026.

According to the festival’s own announcement, more than 8,621 tickets have already been sold — and that’s before the festival day itself. For a lineup that’s grown to include three major international hip hop acts on top of whatever local names get added, that pace of sales is a real signal this one could sell out well ahead of the date.

About Ab-Soul
Ab-Soul is a founding member of Black Hippy, the influential West Coast rap collective alongside Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, and Jay Rock. He broke through with his 2011 debut Longterm Mentality and is widely regarded for the introspective, lyrically dense style of albums like Control System and These Days…. His most recent project, 2024’s Soul Burger, paid tribute to his late childhood friend Doe Burger. For South African hip hop fans who came up on Black Hippy’s run through the 2010s, this is a genuinely significant booking.
