Apple Music Celebrates DJ Zinhle’s 20-Year Milestone with Exclusive Africa Now DJ Mix Release
By Osafo Daniel
Apple Music has unveiled this month’s Africa Now DJ Mix, featuring none other than South African Afro-house DJ and entrepreneur, DJ Zinhle (real name Ntombezinhle Jiyane). Celebrating her illustrious 20-year career, DJ Zinhle has firmly established herself as Africa’s #1 DJ for the past four years while expanding her brand across multiple business ventures.
A Special Mix for a Special Occasion
DJ Zinhle’s journey in the music industry is nothing short of inspirational. Her latest mix, released on Apple Music, showcases some of her favorite tracks for the season. “I’m excited to be doing another mix with some of my favorite tracks for the season,” she shared with Apple Music. “Working with Apple Music and having them share this mix globally always feels good, especially knowing that people in every corner of the world can hear some of Africa’s finest tunes. A female touch on the mix is always a good thing. Enjoy it!”
The Rise of DJ Zinhle
DJ Zinhle’s foray into DJing began unexpectedly when she played her first public gig after a billed DJ failed to show up. Rising to prominence as a resident DJ on the SABC 1 dance show Jika Majika in 2006, she became one of the few women DJs in South Africa’s mainstream at the time. Her deep immersion in dance and house music led to the release of her first compilation, Feminine Touch (Mixed By DJ Zinhle) in 2009, the same year she opened an academy dedicated to women DJs and producers.
Musical Contributions and Viral Hits
DJ Zinhle’s contributions to the electronic dance scene are monumental. She solidified her position in the industry with viral hits like “Umlilo” (2019) and “Indlovu” (2020). Her innovative approach and passion for music have made her a powerhouse in the industry, inspiring many aspiring DJs and producers.
