April Fuel Price Decrease: Relief for South African Motorists
South African motorists are set to receive much-needed relief as significant fuel price decreases take effect from Wednesday, April 2, 2025. According to unaudited data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF), both petrol and diesel prices will drop considerably, providing financial relief for consumers and businesses alike.
How Much Will Fuel Prices Drop in April?
The CEF’s latest data projects the following reductions:
- 93 Unleaded Petrol: Down by 64 cents per litre
- 95 Unleaded Petrol: Down by 78 cents per litre
- Diesel 500ppm: Down by 90 cents per litre
- Diesel 50ppm: Down by 92 cents per litre
This price adjustment means that in Gauteng, motorists can expect:
- 93 Unleaded Petrol at approximately R21.45 per litre
- 95 Unleaded Petrol at approximately R21.56 per litre
Meanwhile, in coastal regions, fuel prices will be even lower:
- 93 Unleaded Petrol at around R20.77 per litre
- Diesel 50ppm at about R18.53 per litre
Why Are Fuel Prices Dropping?
The primary reason behind these fuel price decreases is lower international product prices. The drop in global oil prices has significantly contributed to the decline, with international market trends playing a crucial role:
- Petrol price decreases were largely influenced by international product prices, contributing between 52 cents and 66 cents per litre to the price drop.
- Diesel price reductions saw an even larger impact, with international prices accounting for up to 80 cents per litre of the decrease.

The reduction in fuel prices is expected to:
