Ayanda G. Thabethe Is Miss Cosmo South Africa 2026

Ayanda G. Thabethe Crowned Miss Cosmo South Africa 2026

South African television presenter, media personality and entrepreneur Ayanda G Thabethe is officially returning to the international pageant stage as Miss Cosmo South Africa 2026, taking her message of “impactful beauty” to Vietnam later this year.

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — 13 August 2026 — Ayanda G. Thabethe has been officially announced as Miss Cosmo South Africa 2026, marking a new chapter in her pageantry journey and giving the South African media personality an opportunity to represent the country on an international stage.

Thabethe is no stranger to the spotlight. Her career spans television, presenting, hosting, content creation, entrepreneurship, brand partnerships and public speaking. She has appeared on South African television platforms including Expresso and Afternoon Express and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics and Human Nutrition from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Her return to pageantry comes after several years of building her career and defining a broader sense of purpose beyond the crown.

“I’m returning to pageantry as a woman who has grown beyond the crown. The last few years have allowed me to build a career, find my voice in media and, most importantly, understand what I want my platform to stand for.”

“I’m not coming back simply to compete; I’m coming back with something to contribute. Miss Cosmo gives me an opportunity to take the work I have already started in South Africa and place it on a global stage.”

A Return to Pageantry With Purpose

Thabethe previously represented South Africa as Miss South Africa First Runner-Up in 2022 and Miss Supranational South Africa 2023.

This time, however, she says her approach to pageantry is different.

Her Miss Cosmo South Africa 2026 platform will focus on two initiatives: Crown Confidence and Sustain Her.

Crown Confidence

Crown Confidence is an empowerment initiative aimed at helping young women build confidence, improve their communication skills and learn how to articulate their ambitions.

Drawing on Thabethe’s experience in media, public speaking and pageantry, the initiative aims to give young women practical tools to find their voices and pursue opportunities with greater confidence.

Sustain Her Tackles Period Poverty and Textile Waste

Through Sustain Her, Thabethe is addressing two interconnected challenges: period poverty and textile waste.

The initiative was developed in collaboration with the University of Johannesburg, with lecturers Zanné De Meillon and Danial Carsten, and in partnership with NPC Love Our City.

The programme repurposes donated clothing and textile waste into reusable menstrual pads and menstrual dignity kits for young women.

So far, the initiative has produced more than 1,968 reusable sanitary pads, while 320 girls have received menstrual dignity kits and another 148 kits have been prepared for distribution.

The initiative also combines menstrual support with empowerment, with distributions incorporating confidence and leadership workshops.

How to Support Sustain Her

A contribution of R165 can sponsor a reusable menstrual dignity kit for a girl.

Donations are facilitated through Love Our City, the registered non-profit company and Public Benefit Organisation partnering with Sustain Her.

Eligible donations made to a Section 18A-approved organisation may qualify for a tax deduction, subject to applicable SARS requirements and limits. Donors should confirm their eligibility and obtain the appropriate Section 18A receipt from the organisation.

Thabethe will share further information about donations and ways to get involved through her social media channels.

Ayanda G. Thabethe Heads to Vietnam

Thabethe’s international Miss Cosmo journey begins this month.

She is scheduled to travel to Vietnam from 16–19 August 2026 for the Miss Cosmo 2026 pre-launch event.

The event will bring together international representatives, organisers and stakeholders ahead of the main Miss Cosmo competition later this year.

For Thabethe, the Vietnam trip will be her first official engagement with the Miss Cosmo organisation and the beginning of her preparations to represent South Africa internationally.

The Miss Cosmo 2026 competition is expected to culminate in Vietnam in December.

What Is Miss Cosmo?

Founded in Vietnam by UniMedia, Miss Cosmo is an international beauty pageant built around the concept of “Impactful Beauty.”

The organisation places emphasis on women who use their platforms, voices and actions to create positive influence, while combining pageantry with culture, entertainment, tourism, education and community engagement.

The competition also has an existing South African connection.

In 2025, South African television and fashion personality Bonang Matheba hosted the Miss Cosmo 2025 Grand Finale and Beauty Music Festival in Ho Chi Minh City.

The event brought together more than 80 national representatives and highlighted the international reach of the competition.

For Thabethe, that connection adds another layer of significance as she prepares to represent South Africa in the 2026 edition.

“A Crown Should Amplify What Is Already Inside You”

Thabethe says her goal is to use the Miss Cosmo platform to bring together the different areas of her career and create meaningful impact.

“I’ve always believed that a crown should amplify what is already inside you. For me, this is an opportunity to bring together the worlds I love — media, storytelling, fashion, women’s empowerment and impact — and to represent South Africa with intention.”

She added:

“I want people to see a woman who is ambitious, curious, grounded and willing to use her platform for something bigger than herself.”

Her campaign is supported by Aureus Alliance Holdings, the headline sponsor of the Miss Cosmo South Africa title.

As she prepares to take the South African flag to Vietnam, Thabethe enters the next chapter of her pageantry career with an established media profile, a growing portfolio of social-impact initiatives and a clear focus on what she wants her crown to represent.

For Thabethe, Miss Cosmo South Africa 2026 is not simply a return to pageantry — it is an opportunity to turn the spotlight into a platform for confidence, sustainability and women’s empowerment.
