CAPE TOWN, SA, 6 Feb 2026 – In the world of South African electronic music, “deep house” is often defined by its function: music made for the club, driven by heavy basslines and instrumental loops. But for global powerhouse Dwson (pronounced Daw-son), the genre has always been a way to express something more personal. With his sixth studio album, Nothing to Lose, the Cape Town producer, DJ and songwriter is stepping forward to tell a complete, vulnerable story.
Arriving 6 February 2026, Nothing to Lose takes a different approach. While much of the current scene focuses on instrumentals, Dwson has ensured that every one of the 15 tracks features a vocal element, ranging from full performances to subtle, rhythmic chops. It is a soulful, melodic shift, designed not just for dedicated deep house fans, but for anyone who misses the emotional songwriting of the 2000s R&B era mixed with a fresh, experimental edge. Crafted over the course of three years, the album was designed as a continuous experience, using interludes and a consistent sonic palette to prioritize songwriting over simple loops
The album’s title reflects Dwson’s own path as an artist. Years ago, while studying music production at Soul Candi in Cape Town, he felt overwhelmed by the technical skills of his peers and nearly walked away from music entirely. But through the encouragement of his mother and the guidance of his tutor, Mike Kelly, he found his footing. He spent years locking in comfortably, eventually carving out the signature sound that would win him Best Underground Record of the Year and platinum certifications.
Now, Nothing to Lose stands as the definitive sound of an artist who has navigated the world of self-doubt and emerged clearer on the other side. This transformation is captured in the opening title track, “Nothing to Lose” (feat. Unwnd). Far more than a standard intro, the song serves as the anchor for the entire record. It captures the terrifying but necessary act of reinvention, urging the listener to silence the inner critic, shed the weight of the past, and finally take the leap into the unknown. It is a sonic promise that on the other side of fear, there is something amazing waiting to be found.
From there, the album moves to its foundation, “Selfish” featuring Ziyon (of Liquideep fame). Completed three years ago, this track served as the “North Star” for the project, blending a nostalgic vocal style with Dwson’s modern production texture.
The emotional heart of the album is found in “Oh My Love.” The track features the late producer Poizen, who tragically passed away in August 2025. Featuring an interpolation of Luther Vandross’s “Never Too Much” the song is a triumphant tribute that is already connecting powerfully with audiences in live sets.
Musically, Dwson also explores new territory on “Falling,” a collaboration with beatsbyhand and LA-based vocalist Leiah. The track experiments with the “3-step” sound, balancing aggressive low-end bass with soulful, floating vocals.
One of the most intriguing elements of Nothing to Lose is the arrival of Unwnd, a mysterious new R&B artist featured on standout tracks like “Don’t Deserve Me” and “Can’t Wait To See You.” While details on this new talent remain scarce, the collaboration brings a fresh, “new kid on the block” energy to the Cape Town R&B scene, locking in perfectly with Dwson’s production.
To celebrate the release, Dwson will host two exclusive album launch events. He kicks off the celebrations in Cape Town on February 7, 2026, at The Alley, followed by a second launch in Johannesburg scheduled for February 28, 2026.
From founding the “Dope Room” event platform and social movement to performing alongside global icons like Kaytranada, Louis Vega and Keinemusik- Dwson has always focused on unity and groove. With Nothing to Lose, he offers his most detailed and melodically rich work to date.
