Jack Black Brand Ambassadors Ride High After the Cape Epic

(Cape Town, 05 April 2024) – Cheers to Jack Black brand ambassadors, Pieter Calitz and Nic Lamond, for smashing through the gruelling Absa Cape Epic from 17 to 24 March! The Epic presents a formidable challenge, spanning eight days and covering approximately 700 kilometres. As ambassadors of the brand, Pete and Nic exemplify the spirit of adventure, endurance, and of course, the love for an ice-cold brew that Jack Black stands for.

Reflecting on their journey, the team expressed gratitude for the support they received and shared insights into their experience. “The legs are a bit tired, but the body is feeling surprisingly good,” says Nic. “Crossing that final finish line in Stellenbosch on Sunday, being handed a Jack Black by my dad, and turning to Pete for a dirty hug and a cheers—it sums up so much of the eight days in one moment.”

For Pete, the partnership with Nic was also a driving force. “The Epic is the ultimate test of friendship. We’ve wanted to ride an Epic together for years, and after this experience, I’d sign up for another with Pete in a heartbeat. I think that says it all.” Throughout the race, the spirit of camaraderie was evident, going beyond competition to foster new friendships. Pete reflects on this, saying, “It takes some time to realise that unfamiliar riders around you are not your competition but your fellow travellers. When that guard drops, the entire Epic experience is fuller.”

Nic found an extra boost of motivation in his partner and knowing that they were raising funds for an important cause, he reflects, “The partnership with Pete was hugely motivating. This is my mate, and I will keep pushing, grinding, and digging to make sure we both get home safely each day. Knowing that we were raising funds and awareness for Songo.info and inspiring the kids in the program carried me.”

As avid cyclists and beer enthusiasts, they celebrated their accomplishments in true Jack Black style: with an ice-cold Jack Black CPA at every finish line. Pete had his own fundraising challenge going with some friends from university, where they would donate R1 to Songo.info for every stage we successfully completed, and R49 for each beer the duo downed on the finish line. He adds, “I love my beer, and I loved our ritual recovery drink—but downing a beer after 5+ hours in the saddle is not always easy!”

After catching their breath and dusting off their bikes, Pete and Nic are already eyeing their next adventures. Pete shares, “I need to put this newfound fitness to use somewhere. Later in the year, I’m planning a bikepacking trip through Norway with my dad. We won’t be able to carry Jack Black with us so I’ll be sending tasting notes about the local craft beer!”

Let’s raise a glass to Pete and Nic as they embody the true spirit of Jack Black—where every challenge is met with determination, and every victory is celebrated with good friends and an ice-cold beer in hand.
