Our country celebrates Women’s Month in August. We also remember the more than 20,000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on August 9, 1956, in protest of the Pass Laws being extended to women. A system designed to further control women and convert them to submissive beings at the mercy of men.
“Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights for an Equal Future” is the topic for this year’s Women Month. Generation Equality is a global initiative that connects South Africa to efforts around the world to achieve gender equality by 2030.
