SAMA-Nominated Singer Ndu Shezi Proclaims Her Faith Through New Single “Gugu Lami”
JOHANNESBURG, September 2026 — SAMA-nominated singer-songwriter Ndu Shezi returns with her latest single, “Gugu Lami,” a soulful expression of faith, gratitude and the richness she finds in her relationship with God.
At the heart of “Gugu Lami” is Ndu’s declaration, “Awu yebo ngicebile” — “Oh yes, I am rich” — a celebration of a wealth that has nothing to do with material possessions. Instead, the song reflects the richness she finds in knowing she has God to lean on, beautifully captured in “Kuwena ngiyazimela” — “Unto You, I can lean and rest.”
The recurring “Gugu lami” — “My treasure” — becomes a tender expression of the value she places on that relationship, turning the song into a warm and deeply personal testament to faith, gratitude and finding peace in God.
“The inspiration was my relationship with God and just expressing what that means to me,” says Ndu.
Produced by Ndu Shezi alongside Junior Petja and Sphiwe Moloi, with a stellar band of musicians contributing to the recording, “Gugu Lami” gives its message room to breathe. ABOUT NDU SHEZI
Ndu Shezi is a Durban-born South African singer-songwriter whose music carries rich Zulu nuances shaped by her upbringing in KwaZulu-Natal.
Raised in a musical family where singing was an everyday part of life, Ndu describes her gift and anointing as what ultimately set her apart.
She first introduced herself to South African audiences with her 2018 debut single “Ngthanda Wena,” which received widespread love from listeners. In 2024, she released her debut album Isibusiso Sami, earning a South African Music Award nomination for Best African Adult Contemporary.
She followed the album with singles including “Ngowakho,” featuring Ndabo Zulu.
