SASSA Payment Dates for September 2026: Full Schedule

SASSA Payment Dates for September 2026: Full Schedule

Last checked: 1 September 2026

SASSA has confirmed the September 2026 social grant payment dates: Older Persons Grant on Wednesday, 2 September, Disability Grant on Thursday, 3 September, and Children’s Grants on Friday, 4 September. A fourth payment day, Monday, 7 September, applies to beneficiaries flagged for review. These dates come from the Department of Social Development’s 2026/27 payment schedule, approved by National Treasury, and are confirmed directly against SASSA’s own published notices.

September 2026 Payment Dates at a Glance

Older Person’s GrantWednesday, 2 September 2026
Disability GrantThursday, 3 September 2026
Children’s GrantsFriday, 4 September 2026
Exception PaymentsMonday, 7 September 2026

September falls neatly into SASSA’s standard pattern this month — no weekend or public holiday means the dates land exactly on the usual 2nd, 3rd and 4th, with no adjustment needed.

Time-Sensitive: Postbank Card Migration Deadline

If you still use an old SASSA Gold Card, this affects you directly. Postbank set 31 August 2026 as the deadline to migrate to the new Postbank Black Card. Beneficiaries who haven’t completed the switch risk delays accessing their September payment. The replacement is free — you just need a valid ID or temporary ID at your nearest Postbank or SASSA office. If you’re reading this after the deadline and haven’t migrated yet, go as soon as possible; don’t wait for your payment date to arrive and find out there’s a problem.

How SASSA Payment Dates Are Determined

SASSA follows a consistent set of rules when setting payment dates each month:

  • Early in the month — grants are paid as early as possible, typically across a three-day window.
  • Staggered by grant type — in most months, Older Persons Grants go out on the 2nd, Disability Grants on the 3rd, and Children’s Grants on the 4th.
  • No Mondays, no day-after-holiday, no first-of-month — payments are scheduled to avoid these days, easing pressure on the National Payment System.
  • A separate exception day — a fourth payment day is set aside each month for beneficiaries whose grants are under review or who experienced a late payment.

What About the SRD R370 Grant?

The SRD R370 grant does not follow the same three-day schedule as permanent grants above. It’s paid in staggered batches, typically in the last week of the month, and has been confirmed extended through 31 March 2027 at its current value. Because SRD payment timing is individualised, check your own status directly rather than assuming a fixed date — see our full SASSA SRD status check guide for exactly how to do that.

Don’t Rush — Your Money Stays Available

Your funds remain in your account until you withdraw them — there’s no need to rush to a pay point on the very first available day. To avoid queues, you can draw funds from an ATM, your own bank account, or at retail stores including Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Usave, often with no additional fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the SASSA payment dates for September 2026? Older Persons Grant on 2 September, Disability Grant on 3 September, Children’s Grants on 4 September, and exception payments on 7 September.

Why is there a fourth payment day in September? It’s reserved for beneficiaries flagged for a review or eLife Certification, or for late payments — SASSA notifies affected beneficiaries by SMS.

When are SASSA grants paid each month? Typically the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for Older Persons, Disability, and Children’s Grants respectively, shifting earlier when those dates fall on a weekend, Monday, or the day after a public holiday.

What happens if a payment date falls on a weekend or holiday? SASSA moves the payment to the nearest working day.

Do I need to replace my SASSA Gold Card before September? Yes, if you haven’t already — the Postbank Black Card migration deadline was 31 August 2026, and delaying risks payment access issues.

Does the SRD R370 grant follow the same schedule? No — it’s paid in batches in the last week of the month and has been extended to 31 March 2027. Check your individual status rather than relying on these dates.
