Sony Expands ULT POWER SOUND Range With Bass-Heavy Speakers and Post Malone
Updated: 25 September 2026
Sony has expanded its ULT POWER SOUND range with a collection of bass-focused speakers designed to bring a bigger, more immersive sound experience to parties, outdoor sessions and everyday listening.
The original 2025 launch introduced the ULT TOWER 9, ULT TOWER 9AC, ULT FIELD 5 and ULT FIELD 3, alongside the ULTMIC1 wireless microphones. The launch also marked Sony’s collaboration with global superstar Post Malone as part of its “For The Music” audio campaign.
Since then, the ULT POWER SOUND family has grown. Sony’s South African lineup now includes newer ULT TOWER models such as the ULT TOWER MAX, ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5, alongside the ULT TOWER 9, ULT FIELD 5, ULT FIELD 3, ULT FIELD 7, ULT FIELD 1, ULTMIC1 and ULT WEAR.
Sony ULT POWER SOUND: Massive Bass, Bigger Energy
The ULT POWER SOUND concept is built around Sony’s ULT button, which gives listeners access to bass-focused sound modes.
Depending on the product, users can switch between ULT1 for deeper, lower-frequency bass and ULT2 for a more powerful, punchier bass response. Sony positions the range around the feeling of being closer to the front row of a concert.
The range covers everything from large party speakers designed to fill a room to portable models made for taking music outdoors.
ULT TOWER 9 and ULT TOWER 9AC
The ULT TOWER 9 remains one of the larger party-focused speakers in the range.
It combines powerful bass with Sony’s 360° Party Sound, designed to spread audio around the room rather than concentrating it in one direction. The speaker features four tweeters, two mid-range speakers and Sony’s X-Balanced Speaker Unit.
The ULT TOWER 9 also brings portability to a large-format party speaker. Sony rates its battery life at up to 25 hours, while a built-in handle and castors make it easier to move around.
For karaoke sessions and live-style setups, the speaker includes microphone and guitar inputs, while TV Sound Booster is designed to enhance audio when watching compatible content.
The ULT TOWER 9AC follows a similar concept but is designed for AC power rather than relying on a built-in battery. It also features 360° Party Sound, karaoke and guitar inputs, Echo and Key Controls, and castors for easier movement.

ULT FIELD 5 Takes the Sound Outside
For listeners who want something more portable, the ULT FIELD 5 brings the ULT bass experience into a more mobile format.
The speaker features a detachable shoulder strap, making it easier to carry to outdoor sessions, parties and other places where a larger party speaker would be impractical. Sony also gives it IP67 water and dust resistance, adding protection for outdoor use.
Battery life is rated at up to 25 hours, while the speaker also includes 360° Party Light and Party Connect.
The ULT FIELD 5 uses Sony’s X-Balanced Speaker Unit alongside a tweeter and passive radiators to deliver a combination of clarity and enhanced low-end sound.
ULT FIELD 3 Keeps It Compact
The ULT FIELD 3 takes the same bass-focused approach and puts it into an even more compact portable speaker.
Its two-way active driver design combines a dedicated woofer and tweeter, while side passive radiators are designed to enhance the bass response.
A detachable shoulder strap gives the speaker several carrying options, making it suitable for taking music on the move. Sony lists the ULT FIELD 3 in Black, Off White and Forest Grey.
The speaker is also designed for outdoor use, with Sony highlighting its water, dust and salt-water resistance. The original launch specifications listed up to 24 hours of battery life.

ULTMIC1 Brings Karaoke Into the ULT Range
Sony also introduced the ULTMIC1, a pair of wireless microphones designed specifically to work with compatible ULT POWER SOUND speakers.
The plug-and-play setup uses dongles inserted into the microphone input, allowing two wireless microphones to connect for karaoke, performances and duets. Sony says the microphones are designed to provide clear vocals while pairing seamlessly with the ULT POWER SOUND system.

The ULT Range Has Expanded Since the 2025 Launch
The ULT POWER SOUND range has continued to evolve beyond the products announced in 2025.
Sony’s current South African lineup now includes the ULT TOWER MAX, ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5, alongside existing models including the ULT TOWER 9, ULT FIELD 5 and ULT FIELD 3.
The newer ULT TOWER models are positioned around larger-than-life sound and deep bass, with Sony describing the lineup as being co-created with hip-hop sound creators. The ULT TOWER 5, for example, adds DJ and microphone inputs, up to 20 hours of battery life and IPX4 water resistance.
That makes the ULT POWER SOUND range considerably broader than it was when the original ULT TOWER 9 and ULT FIELD models launched.
Post Malone x Sony: “For The Music”
The original ULT POWER SOUND expansion also introduced Sony’s collaboration with Post Malone.
Sony partnered with the global artist as part of its “For The Music” campaign, connecting the launch to Post Malone’s approach to music and his influence across multiple genres.
The collaboration featured Post Malone in promotional content for the ULT POWER SOUND products, including the ULT TOWER 9AC and ULT FIELD 5. Sony’s campaign used the speakers as part of a visual representation of music bringing people together.
Sony ULT POWER SOUND: Price and Availability in South Africa
At the original South African launch, Sony listed the ULT TOWER 9AC at R18,999 and the ULTMIC1 at R3,999, while pricing for the ULT FIELD 5 and ULT FIELD 3 was still to be announced.
Those launch prices should not be treated as current retail prices in 2026. Sony’s South African website continues to list the ULT POWER SOUND products, but pricing and availability can vary by model and retailer.
The Bottom Line
Sony’s ULT POWER SOUND range has grown from a small group of bass-focused speakers into a much broader audio ecosystem.
The ULT TOWER 9 and 9AC are built around large-scale party sound, the ULT FIELD 5 and FIELD 3 bring the ULT experience into more portable formats, while ULTMIC1 adds wireless microphones for karaoke and performances.
With newer models such as the ULT TOWER MAX, TOWER 7 and TOWER 5 now part of Sony’s South African lineup, the range has become a much bigger part of Sony’s push toward high-energy, bass-forward listening.
