imposed limits to embrace new experiences, supported by
its iconic footwear.
Blending 250 years of heritage and tradition with enduring design, BIRKENSTOCK
continues to deliver on its promise to offer products that represent the second-best
option after walking barefoot. At the heart of each crafted model lies the
BIRKENSTOCK footbed. The term “footbed” was first used by Konrad Birkenstock in
1909 to describe anatomically-shaped inner soles with unique support elements. It is
based on an orthopaedic approach, to provide an optimal environment for foot
health and overall well-being.
The BIRKENSTOCK summer campaign features local personalities who have
stepped out of their comfort zone and into new experiences, the campaign
celebrates individuals whose adventurous spirits have opened doors to them.
Wearing statement summer styles and timeless BIRKENSTOCK favourites, the
characters step through a portal into a new world.
Homba Mazaleni, a sports scientist and aspiring biokineticist steps into the Arizona
Birko-Flor Patent Leather in digital green, to make the ultimate summer statement. It
is a giant leap from her sky-high stilettos which graced the stage of the Miss South
Africa 2023 pageant, where Homba claimed 5 th place. Homba describes the self-
doubt she felt when entering the pageant, needing to learn to walk in heels. “I am
not this person,” she says: “But I thought, take a chance on yourself and see what
happens. I am glad that I did as it has taken me to unexpected and magical places.”
Leroy Panashe Siyafa, who graces TV screens as Sam in the Netflix series
Blood & Water, at first pursued a tertiary education in Information Technology, but
always felt a calling to act. It was a gentle push from a high school teacher which
gave him the confidence to step out and follow his true passion. After auditioning for
a role in the school production of District Six, Leroy says: “It turned out to be the best
experience of my life and now I am an actor.” Leroy steps out in the Arizona Suede
Leather in taupe.
