It Is What It Is is Thundercat’s fourth studio album — a shimmering blend of jazz, funk, R&B, and emotional reflection. It follows his Grammy-winning Drunk (2017) and showcases his signature mix of humor, vulnerability, and virtuosic bass playing.

The album was co-executive produced by Flying Lotus and features guest appearances from Childish Gambino, Steve Lacy, Steve Arrington, Kamasi Washington, Louis Cole, Ty Dolla $ign, and Lil B.

The title and emotional tone of the project were heavily influenced by the death of rapper Mac Miller, one of Thundercat’s close friends — lending a bittersweet undercurrent throughout.
