Vans Style Your Story South African
Bee Diamondhead, Njabulo Hlope, Pholani Mncube and K.Keed explore individuality, self-expression and the personal stories behind Vans classics.
Vans is celebrating South African creativity through “Your Style. Your Story,” a campaign bringing together four local creatives whose individual perspectives reflect the relationship between personal style, cultural identity and self-expression.

Launched in Johannesburg on 23 October 2026, the campaign features creative director and stylist Bee Diamondhead, multidisciplinary artist Njabulo Hlope, fashion curator Pholani Mncube and musician K.Keed. Each brings a different interpretation to the Vans aesthetic, showing how familiar classics can take on new meaning through the people who wear them.
Rooted in skateboarding and embraced by generations of musicians, artists, designers and creative outsiders, Vans has long been associated with individuality and the freedom to challenge convention. Through this campaign, that heritage meets the perspectives of South African creatives who draw inspiration from their communities, experiences and personal journeys.
Bee Diamondhead: The Art of Trusting Your Instincts

Creative director and stylist Bee Diamondhead has spent close to two decades shaping the visual language of South African fashion. Her approach to personal style is built around instinct, independence and a refusal to follow trends simply because they are popular.
“I like what I like, and I don’t like being told what to do,” she says. “I also believe that a lot of rules were set by people that I probably don’t even like, so there’s absolutely no reason for me to follow them.”
Her wardrobe reflects those values. Bee gravitates towards local labels, avoids fast fashion and looks for classic pieces with distinctive silhouettes that can remain relevant beyond seasonal trends.
Rather than treating style as something that needs constant reinvention, she approaches it as an expression of personal identity.
“I have an internal compass that points straight back to me,” she says.
Njabulo Hlope: The Freedom to Keep Exploring

Artist Njabulo Hlope, also known as Dirty Native Chief, approaches creativity through curiosity and a willingness to keep learning. Growing up in Soweto, he developed an interest in the visual culture around him, eventually building a multidisciplinary practice spanning illustration, murals and public installations.
“I learn a new lesson about life and my position in this world every day in every place,” he says.
That openness also shapes his personal style. Drawing from people, places and different subcultures, Hlope collects and reinterprets influences rather than adhering to one fixed aesthetic.
His perspective reflects the way creative identity develops over time, shaped by new experiences and the freedom to explore ideas beyond familiar boundaries.
Pholani Mncube: Same Classics, New Stories

Johannesburg-based fashion curator Pholani Mncube, founder of FabrikHunter, works at the intersection of vintage clothing, archival fashion and workwear. His practice focuses on discovering new value in garments and pieces that might otherwise be overlooked.
That appreciation for enduring design informs his connection to Vans.
“I think it’s because Vans gives people room,” he says. “The shoe itself is relatively simple, but that simplicity allows different people and communities to interpret it in their own way.”
Mncube describes Vans as “almost a democratic object”, highlighting how its classic footwear can move between generations, aesthetics and communities without losing its recognisable identity.
“The shoe remains consistent, but the people wearing it continuously give it new meaning.”
His perspective places the wearer at the centre of personal style, showing how the same classic design can become part of very different stories.
K.Keed: Keeping Curiosity Alive

For musician K.Keed, creative expression extends beyond recording and performing. Fashion and the willingness to embrace new experiences form part of a broader creative identity driven by curiosity and self-discovery.
The artist, who grew up in Gugulethu, reflects on the importance of maintaining a connection to the person she was before her career developed.
“Outside of my creative persona and career, I am still a young girl all the way from Gugulethu, who is still curious about the world and what it has to offer for young people like me,” she says.
That curiosity influences how she approaches different aspects of her life and work.
“I’m a big fan of self-actualisation, and this is the very same mentality I incorporate in the different sides of me.”
Through her contribution to “Your Style. Your Story,” K.Keed highlights the importance of remaining open to growth, new experiences and different ways of expressing who you are.
Vans Classics Through a South African Lens
Together, Bee Diamondhead, Njabulo Hlope, Pholani Mncube and K.Keed demonstrate how personal style can reflect individuality without being confined to a single aesthetic.
Their interpretations connect fashion to wider creative practices, from music and visual art to vintage collecting and cultural exploration. Each perspective reinforces the idea that classic pieces do not need to be reinvented to remain relevant; the people who wear them continually give them new meaning.
For Vans, “Your Style. Your Story” brings its longstanding association with skate culture and non-conformity into conversation with South African creative voices.
The campaign ultimately celebrates a simple idea: personal style is not just about what you wear, but the experiences, influences and perspectives that make it your own.
