Weylandts Opens an Intimate Bar in Cape Town for Design Week
OCTOBER 2026 – Weylandts steps out from behind the furniture with The With, an intimate bar at 107 Castle Street, Cape Town, created for Design Week 2026. Designed by StudioLandt and built around a single idea: a bar that exists with people. The room is open from 21 to 31 October, with public seatings from 22 October onwards.
For a brand that has spent more than sixty years making the things people live among, the project is less a departure than an extension. Since Edgar Weylandt opened his first store in Windhoek in 1964, good living, as the family has understood it, has been about connection: to people, to place, to nature and to yourself. Weylandts already expresses that through product, through the studios that shape spaces, showrooms that encourage experience, and an ethos that lives through craft and design. The With asks what that looks like when the brand is in the room, rather than behind it.
A PREPOSITION THAT NEEDS SOMETHING AFTER IT
The name is a deliberate choice. A preposition cannot stand alone; it needs something after it; a person, a place, a night. The same is true of the room, which is only finished once there are people in it.
Seats are limited and offered in two-hour sittings, to keep the room intimate.
THE FURNITURE STEPS INTO THE ROOM
The bar offers the brand an uncommon vantage point on its own work. “Our furniture has always lived in other people’s homes, which means we have rarely seen what happens around it,” says Anna Weylandt, who now leads the brand. “The With lets us be in the room for once. I hope people sit down next to someone they know, or someone they are about to meet, and leave feeling that good living is mostly about the company you keep.”
The room was designed by StudioLandt. Cocktails are named after beloved pieces from the Weylandts oeuvre, with bar snacks to go alongside them, and drinks are poured in partnership with Moët Hennessy.
THE ORDER OF EVENTS
Alongside the nightly seatings, a short programme runs through Design Week. The Opening Evening on 17 October and an evening hosted with Soho House on 21 October are by invitation.
- 22 October 2026, 16h00 – 18h00 – In Conversation: Anna Weylandt and Alexa Schempers, on design, making and what it means to live well.
- 22 – 31 October 2026, 16h00 – 18h00, 18h00 – 20h00 and 20h00 – 22h00 – The With: a two-hour seat at the Design Week bar, with drinks and small plates.
- 23 October 2026, 20h00 – late – The With: Live with Muneyi. Drinks and small plates following a live performance by Muneyi, with a first drink on the house, and The Kunda, a brown-buttered, Hennessy spin on an old-fashioned.
- 24 October 2026, 22h00 – late – Design Week Afterparty, celebrating a week of design, craft and connection.
