Y PRESENTS ON ROAD

Y Launches On Road, Exploring Jozi Street Culture Through Owen Miller

Last updated: 4 September 2026

Y is taking its audience deeper into Johannesburg’s creative underground with On Road, a new six-episode visual content series exploring the people, communities and movements shaping Jozi’s culture.

Hosted by Owen Miller, On Road is a medium-format content experience covering art, film, music and fashion, offering a visual look at the city’s constantly evolving creative landscape.

The series explores everything from the growth of sustainable fashion and the difference between storytelling and self-expression in advertising and visual content, to street art’s journey from the city streets into galleries and the people working behind the scenes in South Africa’s music industry.

Owen Miller Takes On Road Through Jozi

For Miller, the project is rooted in a personal connection to Johannesburg and the diverse subcultures that make up the city.

Growing up in the East Rand, Miller says the diversity around him sparked a desire to experience more of the city after matriculating. After nearly a decade of living in Johannesburg, that curiosity has developed into a deeper interest in the communities and creative movements that continue to shape Jozi.

“On Road is a visual diary of our art and the communities that shape these movements. It’s about the culture — praising those that came before and inspiring those who will follow.”

Y Continues Its Push Into Culture

On Road forms part of Y’s broader move beyond traditional radio programming and into longer-form digital storytelling, experiential content and culture-led entertainment.

Y Managing Director Haseena Cassim says the project represents another stage in the evolution of the youth-focused brand, following its 2021 brand refresh and subsequent expansion into different forms of content.

“This production illustrates the next step in Y’s evolution. The brand refresh in October 2021 was the gateway to fulfilling the brand promise of serving its audiences access to all things Y.”

Cassim points to the brand’s audio drama series and experiential events as part of that evolution, with On Road now adding longer-format visual storytelling to the mix.

From The Banques and Venom Show to On Road

Y has already experimented with digital-first programming, including The Banques and Venom Show, which has accumulated more than 1.5 million views on YouTube.

The brand has also found an audience with Tequila AF, an audio drama series aimed at young adults.

With On Road, Y is continuing that push into culture-focused content, this time putting Johannesburg’s creative communities at the centre of the story.

On Road consists of six 13-minute episodes.
