adidas Revives Liverpool’s Iconic 1980s Style With New Away Kit

adidas Revives Liverpool’s Iconic 1980s Style With New Away Kit

South Africa, August 3, 2026 – Today, adidas and Liverpool FC unveil the new away jersey for the 2026/27 season,  a design inspired by the club’s iconic away kits of the mid-1980s. Featuring the adidas Trefoil logo and a heritage Liver Bird crest, the jersey celebrates one of the most memorable periods in Liverpool’s history while combining modern performance innovation with football culture and style.

Drawing inspiration from the away shirt worn during 1985-88, the design revisits an era synonymous with some of the club’s most celebrated teams and players. It was a period that helped define Liverpool’s identity on and off the pitch, creating lasting memories for generations of supporters and establishing a visual legacy that remains influential today.

Built on a clean white base, the jersey is complemented by strawberry red and grey detailing throughout. The colour palette takes inspiration from classic Liverpool away kits of the era, delivering a look that feels familiar while being modern in its execution.

A key feature of the jersey is the return of the heritage Liver Bird crest, positioned on the chest alongside the adidas Trefoil logo. Together, these two iconic symbols reinforce the jersey’s connection to the club’s history, celebrating a partnership and period that remain deeply embedded in football culture.

The V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs feature coordinated red and grey detailing, creating a sharp contrast against the white base. Complementing these elements, adidas three stripes run along the shoulders, completing a clean and balanced aesthetic.

Built into the fabric is a bespoke engineered pattern inspired by historic Anfield match tickets and season tickets. References to vintage ticket stubs and archival graphic elements are subtly integrated throughout the jersey, creating texture and depth while paying tribute to generations of supporters who have passed through the turnstiles of Anfield.

Designed for elite performance, the jersey features lightweight, body-mapped engineered fabrics that enhance fit and freedom of movement. Incorporating adidas’ latest CLIMACOOL+ technology, the jersey helps regulate temperature through advanced moisture management and strategically placed ventilation zones.

The 2026/27 away kit is completed with strawberry red shorts and white socks, featuring coordinated detailing and adidas branding to create a cohesive on-pitch look.

The new Liverpool FC Away Jersey will be available from today via selected adidas retail locations, and online adidas.co.za.
