PUMA LQDCELL Method First Mile Xtreme Brings Recycled Materials to Training
PUMA’s LQDCELL Method First Mile Xtreme combines high-intensity training performance with recycled materials, stable cushioning and a bold neon-accented apparel collection.
Cape Town, South Africa – October 2020 – PUMA introduced the LQDCELL Method First Mile Xtreme, a training sneaker designed to support quick, explosive movements during high-intensity workouts.
Part of PUMA’s First Mile Xtreme Pack, the sneaker combines the brand’s LQDCELL cushioning technology with recycled materials sourced through the First Mile network.
Designed for lateral exercises, agility drills and high-intensity training, the shoe focuses on stability, cushioning, flexibility and traction.

PUMA LQDCELL Method First Mile Xtreme
The LQDCELL Method First Mile Xtreme was built around the demands of fast-paced training.
Its design supports the kind of lateral and explosive movements associated with agility exercises, while PUMA’s LQDCELL cushioning system provides stable cushioning underfoot.
The shoe also uses First Mile yarn, which is produced from recycled plastic bottles collected from local communities.
The recycled material initiative connects the sneaker to PUMA’s wider sustainability efforts, with the First Mile network working with communities in countries including Taiwan, Haiti and Honduras.
LQDCELL Method First Mile Xtreme Technology
The training sneaker combines several technologies aimed at improving performance during demanding workouts.
First Mile Recycled Yarn
The First Mile yarn used in the shoe is made from plastic bottles collected from local communities.
According to PUMA, the initiative was designed not only to divert plastic waste from landfills but also to create sustainable employment opportunities and positive social impact.
PROFOAM Cushioning
The sneaker features PROFOAM high-rebound EVA, designed to provide lightweight cushioning and energy return.
This helps keep the shoe responsive without adding unnecessary weight.
LQDCELL Stable Cushioning
PUMA’s LQDCELL technology is positioned in the midsole to provide stable cushioning during training movements.
The technology is particularly suited to workouts involving quick changes of direction and lateral movement. Product specifications for the LQDCELL Method First Mile Xtreme also list a full-length high-rebound EVA midsole and LQDCELL cushioning in the heel.
Forefoot Flex Grooves
Forefoot flex grooves allow the shoe to move with the foot during agility exercises.
The design is intended to support quick transitions and movement during high-intensity training.
Zoned Rubber Outsole
The outsole uses zoned rubber to provide traction during different training movements.
This is complemented by the forefoot flex grooves, giving the sneaker a combination of flexibility and grip.
PUMA First Mile Xtreme Pack
The LQDCELL Method First Mile Xtreme was accompanied by a wider PUMA First Mile Xtreme apparel collection.
The collection featured bold neon colour highlights, giving the training pieces a distinctive look that matched the sneaker.

PUMA First Mile and Sustainability
The First Mile programme was an important part of the collection’s story.
PUMA said that every purchase of a PUMA x First Mile product supported communities in Taiwan, Haiti and Honduras by helping create sustainable jobs and positive social impact.
In 2020, PUMA said its First Mile collection had diverted more than 1.9 million plastic bottles from landfills.
That approach made the LQDCELL Method First Mile Xtreme more than a performance trainer. The sneaker connected PUMA’s training footwear technology with its efforts to incorporate recycled materials into its products.
